President's Corner - Newsletter Overhaul

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the WPA's online blog!  Some of you may recall the days when newsletters were issued to each WPA member, and unfortunately those newsletters became few and far between.  With the intent to keep up with the WPA's mission to develop and promote the scientific foundation of wetland science, we decided to give the high-tech world of blogging a try!  Throughout this and future issues, you will be pleased to find information on upcoming and past forums, field trips, conferences and other continuing education opportunities; an update on the state of the WPA; membership benefits; articles regarding general wetland issues; a "plant of the month;" and wetland-related photos submitted by WPA members.

In addition to the newsletter, the WPA's website is also being updated.  Check back in November to see the new features of the website (www.wetlandprofessionals.org).  The WPA is excited about these new changes and opportunities to engage with the membership!

Who does certification crediting?

The University of Minnesota Water Resources Center administers the Wetland Delineator Certification Program.  The WDCP is charged with delineator certification and determining credits earned.  They provide a number of annual delineation-specific trainings and partner with the Wetland Professionals Association on the Minnesota Wetland Conference.

The Wetland Professionals Association is a completely independent organization, with a broad wetlands science view.  We provide forums, field trips, the Minnesota Wetland Conference, and other networking opportunities.  Our gatherings are eligible for direct or indirect delineator credits, at the discretion of WDCP.

We, the Wetland Professionals Association, do not administer the Wetland Delineator Certification Program, and do not focus solely on wetland delineation.
